In-house at TotallyMoney | My role: Lead UI Designer
TotallyMoney is an app that has a reasonably high barrier to entry, as it requires new users to enter enough information about themselves that they might be found by the credit agency TransUnion. Therefore, an engaging and insightful public website is an essential part of the onboarding process.
The public website for TotallyMoney already had a reasonably well-defined style before I joined the company in early 2020. While designing all the pages shown below, I have gently evolved this style rather than revolutionising it.
TotallyMoney's homepage is the first point of contact with the company for many users. Working closely with the Product Marketing Manager and a product designer colleague, we redesigned the page to flow smoothly and hold the attention of potential customers.
Some qualitative research carried out by my colleague revealed that users responded well to seeing screens from the product in realistic-looking devices. I decided to display the screens in a creative style that ties in neatly with the copy, augmented by our signature 'blobs' used as bullet points.
For visitors to the site who are using an Android device to view it, the screens are displayed in Samsung phones rather than iPhones.
The team at TotallyMoney has a vast amount of knowledge about the credit market and how credit scoring works. To provide a generally useful service for customers and non-customers alike, the company has created numerous guides about personal finances. I have designed a template with numerous component types to facilitate the easy creation of new guides via the TotallyMoney CMS.
The desktop version of the page has a sticky (persistent) navigation component. Our research showed that users are often intererested in a specific piece of information within our guides – this navigation enables them to jump to it.
An appealing careers page is essential to a tech product company like TotallyMoney. In a fiercely competitive market, the company must be sold as hard to potential employees as to potential customers.
